Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a major awards ceremony draws close, one notices an outcry to include fresh award types to recognize underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of fans who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. Here's the proposal: We need a category for puzzle games.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. There’s simply nowhere for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into independent or mobile categories

Significance of Puzzle Games

Commonly they're small games, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences that otherwise have no home in important events. Puzzle game makers operate at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait decades.
